Library Stacks

I get to work with books!!

At the beginning of this year I made some changes in my life, major changes. Closed one business completely, started winding down the other one, applied for early Social Security (thank you for all those corporate years), downsized and moved.

My calculations told me we could get by on our combined income if we could get the expenses low enough. The reality is that we could get by but we don’t quite. Primarily because I’m not willing to shrink our lives down to fit into that small of a box. The occasional dinner out, having friends in to share a meal, going out to see a movie or play, eating well are all too important.

While I search, once again, for what I want to do when I grow up (I’m a chronic entrepreneur) I wanted a little something to help pad the bank account. Enter an opportunity to work part time at the local library. Very part time. Maximum of 999 hours per year. After a test, an interview, a background check and a pile of paperwork I got the job. I start today at 2pm. I love starting new things.

It feels like the first day of school. I was am one of those kids who love school. I looked forward to it all summer. I even went to summer school because I wanted to, not because I had to. Weird, right?

Anyway, in about 4 hours I will report to work at my new job. A job uniquely suited to where I am right now and what I want to do going forward. It will provide the financial pad I need to maintain our current life style. It will provide the schedule flexibility to maintain the extra curricular activities I enjoy. It will let me pursue whatever shiny object catches my attention next. And I get to mess about with books.
