Pine Needle Baskets

Several years ago I taught myself how to coil pine needles, with a little help from the internet. After many false starts, stabbed fingers, and a lot of muttering under my breath I finished my first basket.

It’s a little loose, and the shape sort of wobbles around some but it’s my first and so it occupies a special place in my heart, and on my display shelf.

Shortly after discovering this craft I found a lively community of coilers on the internet, a basketry guild in my neighborhood, books on the subject, and classes.  Who knew?

Pine needle baskets take considerably longer to create than the twined baskets. Each one is a major commitment of time. Since I am far from expert, this means mine sell for far less than the effort seems to call for.  But, I enjoy making them and people like them so getting paid is a bonus.
