It’s over! No, really – it’s over. Over for me anyway. I’m sure there will be people knocking on doors for months to come, trying to get information about the households that refused to talk to any of the previous 5, or 6, or 7 or more dedicated people who tried to convince folks to share just a little basic information (you all know who you are). But none of those people will be turning their paperwork into me anymore.
Since mid April I’ve been working for the 2010 Census. The job was going to last about 8 weeks. This Friday night at happy hour I said good bye to many of the office workers, enumerators, FOS’s, AAMFO’s, CLA’s and miscellaneous other acromynic individuals who have been a part of my daily landscape for the last 4 months.
The good news – now I have my life back. The bad news – now I have to figure out how to replace the paycheck. But for today – I’m enjoying a day off.
OMG! My husband Doug was an FOS here in Houston. Boy does he have some stories to tell. I bet you do too. Did any of your people get beat up or have guns pulled on them?
You know what I found strange? all the hub bub over PII. It’s nothing that couldn’t be found in any phone book or certainly online.
Ahhh – the stories – people are stranger than anyone. No guns or assaults within my group but some of my colleagues encountered that. We had hatchets, dogs, naked people, and an amazing array of personality disorders.
I’m going to miss it.
Thanks for stopping by my site. And thanks for working for the census. That’s an important job. If I knew you got to see naked people, I might have volunteered. Or not. I like your Inspector Gadget graphic there. I’m going to look around here.
